"1989" Sells 5 Million Copies in the US, Blank Space Reaches 1 Billion Views

Taylor has reached two more milestones in her career and these one comes with a few records along the way.

This week the US Album sales for 1989 has made it the fastest selling album in over 10 years. 1989 has reached 5 Million sales in the USA alone in just 36 weeks since its release on October 27th 2014. The magic 5 Million mark was reached in the week ending July 5th and now stands at 5.015 Million. 1989's climb to 5 Million sales is the fastest since Usher's Confessions sold 5 Million in just 19 weeks back in 2004.

1989 is now Taylor's 3rd highest selling album behind Fearless (released in 2008) and her self-titled debut (released in 2006). They've sold 6.95 million and 5.52 million, respectively, to-date. With the current sales trend of 1989, the sales would surpass her self-titled debut album in a matter of months and possibly before the end of 2015.

The last album which reached 5 Million sales was Adele's 21 back in 2011 in its 42nd week of release. 1989 also spends its 36th consecutive week in the top 10 of the Billboard 200 chart, meaning the album has not dropped out of the top 10 since its release.
