MTV Video Music Awards 2015

The MTV Video Music Awards are never just a quiet affair with performances and handing out a few awards along the way and 2015 was no exception.

Taylor premiered her new music video for Wildest Dreams (which you can read all about in my previous post) then proceeded to appear on stage with Nicki Minaj. Nicki Minaj threw insults at Miley Cyrus over something that happened earlier in the week, Kanye West received an award for his career and made a 10 minute speech about it ending with saying he wanted to run for president and to top it all off the VMAs had a host which was none other than Miley Cyrus.

Lets start at the beginning of the show and work our way through.

Nicki Minaj opened the show with a performance mash up of her songs Trini Dem Girls/The Night Is Still Young. Just when you thought the performance was over, Taylor appeared at the back of the stage. Dressed in a matching red one piece that looks like her Style outfits from the 1989 tour, Taylor sang a verse of Nicki's song The Night Is Still Young, before both her and Nicki sang the chorus to Bad Blood. Both stars looked very happy on stage together and proved the is no Bad Blood between them after a previous twitter disagreement earlier in the month.

Miley Cyrus and her crazy outfits certainly kept everyone guessing throughout the night with all her appearance changes, some of them surprisingly decent for Miley while others were typical Miley.

The first bout of trouble appeared when Nicki was giving her acceptance speech for Best Hip Hop Video. Apparently the media had twisted something either Miley or Nicki had said indirectly about or to each other and was using it against Nicki. Nicki then proceeded to call out Miley as a B*. Miley was quick to apologise and point out her words had been twisted around while also congratulating Nicki on the win.

Taylor presented Kanye West with the Video Vanguard Award and both sides used lines from their previous VMA encounter back in 2009 in their speeches. You can find full details in this Article.

Taylor and her dancing is something that never fails to appear at award shows and this was no different.

Taylor rounded out her successful night at the 2015 MTV VMAs by taking home the top prize, earning her first Video of the Year award for "Bad Blood" with Kendrick Lamar.
There was some tough competition from the likes of  BeyoncĂ©'s "7/11," Ed Sheeran's "Thinking Out Loud," Lamar's "Alright" and Mark Ronson ft. Bruno Mars' "Uptown Funk," the futuristic video for the duo's Hot 100 chart-topping collaboration was the clear-cut favorite from the start.

Taylor, who attended the VMAs with her "Bad Blood" squad, got them all to come up on stage with her to accept her award that commenced with respects paid to Straight Outta Compton and the absent Lamar.

Taylor gave credit to everyone on the stage with her by saying"This was such a collaborative effort, These women helped create their parts, write their roles and decide what they wanted to be. Two of these women I've named cats after. For the fans to give us this bonding experience we'll have forever -- thank you from the bottom of my heart."

The video itself lately had being getting a bit of criticism from the press for showing girls fighting and resolving problems in a way that is not lady like. Taylor hit back at this by finishing she speech with "I'm just happy in 2015 to live in a world where boys can play princesses and girls can play soldiers." She received a standing ovation.

The 4 awards Taylor received at the VMA's are:
Best Pop Video - Blank Space
Best Female Video - Blank Space
Best Collaboration - Bad Blood Feat. Kendrick Lamar
Video Of The Year - Bad Blood Feat. Kendrick Lamar

Wildest Dreams Music Video Released

In the final minutes of the pre show to the 2015 Video Music Awards, The video for Wildest Dreams premiered for the first time.

While I believe the actual clip of Taylor introducing her new video was pre recorded only an hour earlier, when your caught up in the excitement of the videos release, it doesn't really matter. Taylor took the direction of this video to a whole new level and it was something no one was really expecting. 1950's africa and a movie scene was something no one saw coming.

The release of Wildest Dreams is the 5th single off 1989 behind Shake It Off, Blank Space, Style and Bad Blood.

Taylor took on a different look in this video going brunette with a wig that had her hair longer than her current golden blonde hair. Brunette on Taylor is something I had to do a double take on to ensure myself it was actually her, but should she ever make the switch to darker hair, it would certainly suit her nicely.

Whether Taylor actually went to Africa or not is still opening debated given she is currently on her 1989 world tour and has no more than a week off between shows, however it is something we may never know. The director Joseph Khan however did confirm that he travelled to South Africa to get the shots of the animals used in the video.

It was also noted at the end of the video that all proceeds from the video will go back into African wildlife conservation.

I absolutely adore the video Taylor, Just is there going to be a tour music video at all?
